Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary
The Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh, is one of the faous wildlife sanctuaries in Himachal Pradesh that is well connected by the network of roads. Spread in the total area of 4.028 square kilometers, it covers Renuka Reserve Forest and has been declared as Abhayaranya. Not forget to mention the area of roughly about 3 square kilometres that lies outside the sanctuary has been declared as a buffer belt.
The vicinity is well predictable by its devout and cultural value. Talking about its history, Renuka is an abode of temples of the mother-and-son duo of Renukaji and Lord Parshuram. Mythological Renukaji is a personification of Goddess Durga, who was the wife of Rishi Jamadagni. Parshuram believed to be the sixth embodiment of Lord Vishnu and was the youngest of all five sons of the couple. According to religious points, to obey the command of his father, Parshuram had to serve the head of his mother. After killing his mother, he begged his father to perjure life in his mother, for which the Rishi agreed. Renukaji was considered extremely beautiful and Sahastarvahu, the emperor, wanted to marry her and once when Parshuram was away, he killed Rishi Yamdagini and his four sons to marry Renukaji. To get away the clutches of the emperor Renukaji jumped into small pond, known by the name of the Ramsarover at that time, and missing into it. Ever since, the lake is worshiped as Renuka Lake.
The sanctuary falls in the bio-geographical zone four that is biogeographically province four. In this wonderful wildlife sanctuary, you will see Leopard, Samber, Spotted Deer, Barking deer, Jackal, Hare, Jungle cat, Plam Civet, Porcupine, Blue jay, Black Partridge, Drongos, Hill Crow, Scarlet Minivet, Bulbul, Common Coots, Greenm Pigeons.
